Istanbul, May 17 -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Saturday the discovery of a gas field in the Black Sea with reserves of 75 billion cubic meters (bcm).
"At the Goktepe-3 field, after 49 days of drilling and testing, yesterday we received good news: we discovered gas reserves amounting to 75 bcm. This volume is sufficient to supply our apartments [across Turkey] for 3.5 years. The value of these reserves is estimated at $30 billion," Erdogan said during a speech in Istanbul.
The Black Sea gas fields currently supply gas to 4 million apartments with 9.5 bcm, with plans to quadruple this figure by 2028, the Turkish president said.
