Ranchi, April 15 -- The security forces and Maoists were engaged in an exchange of fire in the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand on Wednesday, during an ongoing anti-insurgency operation.
Police sources said the encounter began when teams on a search operation came under fire from Maoist cadres, following which the forces retaliated.
Personnel from the CoBRA battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force, Jharkhand Jaguar and district police are involved in the joint operation.
A CoBRA jawan sustained bullet injuries in the exchange of fire and is being prepared for air evacuation, officials said.
