Bengaluru, March 9 -- A captive elephant named "Abhi," housed at the Mathigodu Elephant Camp inside the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve in Kodagu district, died on Sunday, forest officials on Monday said.
The elephant, which had been brought from a zoo and rehabilitated at the camp, reportedly collapsed and died despite efforts by forest staff and veterinarians to save it. Officials conducted a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Sources in the Forest Department said Abhi had been under observation for some time and had shown signs of health complications before the incident. After it collapsed, veterinarians rushed to provide treatment but the animal could not be revived.
