Kolkata, March 15 -- The Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states, including West Bengal, on Sunday.

The poll panel has convened a press conference at 4 pm at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, where the dates for the elections is likely to be declared.

The briefing will be addressed by the full bench of the commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in West Bengal, the number of phases in the state's Assembly election may be significantly reduced compared to previous polls.
