Chandigarh, Jan. 15 -- The Election Commission of India on Wednesday appointed senior IAS officer Anindita Mitra as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, replacing Sibin C., IAS. The appointment takes effect from the date she assumes charge.

According to a notification issued by the Secretariat of the Election Commission of India, the appointment has been made under Section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, in consultation with the Punjab government. The order has been published in the Gazette of India and is scheduled to be republished in the Punjab State Gazette.
