New Delhi, Jan. 29 -- India has reduced its dependence on imported edible oil to 56.25 per cent in 2023-24 from 63.2 per cent in 2015-16 according to the Economic Survey tabled by Finance Minister on Thursday.
This trend also boosts domestic oilseed production and improves farm productivity,The Survey said domestic availability of edible oil rose from 86.30 lakh tonnes in 2015-16 to 121.75 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, even as demand continued to grow across the country.
To move towards self-sufficiency, the Centre is implementing the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oilseeds (NMEO-OS) and the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP).
