Kolkata, Feb. 18 -- Coming down heavily on the Election Commission of India, Trinamool Mahila Congress president and West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya on Wednesday said democracy faces the biggest crisis when a constitutional authority starts behaving "like the back office of a political party".
Speaking to mediapersons after a five-member Trinamool Congress delegation met the state Chief Electoral Officer Manij Agarwal and submitted a memorandum, Bhattacharya alleged that despite clear-cut directions from the Supreme Court on transparency and integrity, instructions affecting people's franchise are being circulated via WhatsApp groups.
