Kolkata, April 15 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday started distributing voter information slips (VIS) ahead of the Assembly Elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

The first of the two-phase election in West Bengal, covering 152 of the 294 seats, is scheduled on April 23. All 234 seats in Tamil Nadu will go to the hustings the same day.

According to a senior ECI official, the slips happen to be a key facilitative document for voters.

Each slip contains essential details of the elector including their particulars, polling station location, date and time of polling, along with a snapshot map of the polling station.
