Chennai, March 1 -- Tamil Nadu Minister for Forests and Khadi R.S.Rajakannappan on Sunday inaugurated a Drone Surveillance Unit at the Madukkarai Railway Track, marking an important step towards strengthening technology-enabled wildlife protection in the region, besides preventing elephant-train collisions along this sensitive railway stretch.

An official release said Tamil Nadu continues to integrate advanced technology into wildlife conservation.

To address the risk of elephant mortality along railway tracks in the Madukkarai Range, the Forest Department had earlier operationalized an AI-based early warning system.
