Thrissur, Dec. 26 -- : Dr Niji Justin from the Indian National Congress on Friday took oath as the Mayor of Thrissur Corporation amidst serious allegations of another party Councillor levelling charges against the party leadership for selling the mayoral post for money.

In the 56-member corporation council, Dr Justin secured 35 votes with the support of two independents.

Three names were discussed by the party for the woman reserved mayoral post--Lali James, Dr Niji Justin and Subi Babu.

Although there were strong indications that Lali James would be chosen, the last minute change favoured Nitin Justine.

Lali James levelled serious allegations against the party leadership saying the mayoral post was sold for money.
