Shahjahanpur, Feb. 10 -- Panic broke out among passengers after a double-decker bus overturned early Tuesday morning in the Khutar police station area of Shahjahanpur district. The accident occurred around 6 am on the Puranpur Road near Navadiya Manikant village, when the bus lost control and veered off the road before overturning.
The bus was travelling from Ludhiana in Punjab to Bahraich and was carrying a large number of labourers. Eyewitnesses said that screams and chaos followed immediately after the bus overturned. Local villagers rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. Khutar police also reached the scene and, with the help of locals, pulled injured passengers out of the bus.
