Chennai, Oct. 20 -- Diwali, the festival of lights, which dispels darkness and brings light, was celebrated in Tamil Nadu today with traditional gaiety and religious fervour.
Amid forecast of rains, people, clad in new dresses, celebrated the occasion by bursting crackers and sharing pleasantries and sweets with their friends and family members.
Several people also thronged temples and offered special prayers to mark the occasion. The Tamil Nadu government has made elaborate arrangements to ensure an incident and accident-free diwali festival, with the TN State Pollution Control Board urging the people to burst only green crackers to avoid pollution.
