Siiguri, March 31 -- Dissent within the BJP over candidate selection, surfacing across several constituencies in north Bengal, intensified on Tuesday after the party declared its fourth list of nominees, and changed the contestant for the Maynaguri seat in Jalpaiguri district.

Following strong protests from local party leaders and workers, the party announced the name of Dalim Roy, dropping its earlier nominee for Maynaguri Kaushik Roy. The change came in the wake of intense dissent within the local unit, with several leaders openly opposing Kaushik Roy's candidature and even threatening to quit the party if the decision was not reconsidered.
