New Delhi, Jan. 31 -- The average Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national Capital on Saturday witnessed a spike of 62 points, and slipped into the 'very poor' category, data released by pollution monitoring agency Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said.

According to the daily average AQI bulletin released by the CPCB at 4 pm, Delhi's air pollution index was 315, based on the readings from across 39 air monitoring stations across the city.

During the past couple of days, the air quality levels improved to 'moderate' category, which was a relief for the residents of the national Capital.

The prominent pollutant in the city's air were the PM 2.5 particles, the pollution monitoring agency said.
