New Delhi, Nov. 18 -- Delhi Police, strongly opposing the bail applications of activists Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and others in connection with the February 2020 city riots, told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it was not a spontaneous riot but an attack on the sovereignty of the nation.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing Delhi Police, informed a bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria that the incidents were an attempt to divide society along communal lines and went beyond a mere protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
