New Delhi, Dec. 10 -- The Delhi government on Wednesday announced stricter fire safety inspections and tighter oversight of licensing procedures for public establishments, citing the recent fire tragedy in Goa as a reminder of gaps that can prove fatal if left unaddressed.

Home Minister Ashish Sood said directions have been issued for immediate and comprehensive inspections of restaurants, hotels, clubs, banquet halls, wedding venues and similar public spaces across the capital. The inspections will focus on the functionality of fire safety equipment and compliance with Rule 33 of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) Rules, 2010, especially ahead of the Christmas festival and New Year season when footfall typically rises.
