New Delhi, April 8 -- The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Wednesday strongly opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) decision to recruit contractual sanitation workers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), calling it a setback for Dalit and poor communities.
DPCC President Devender Yadav accused the BJP of exposing its "anti-Dalit, anti-poor face" by planning to appoint 50 contractual employees in each of the 12 MCD zones instead of fulfilling earlier promises for direct recruitment.
He said that before the 2022 MCD elections, the BJP had promised to engage 16,349 temporary sanitation workers across all zones.
