Budapest, April 13 -- A decisive political upheaval has taken place in the recent Hungarian elections, as Viktor Orban' finally lost his 16-year-long grip on power, and was beaten by opposition leader and now the country's new Prime Minister Peter Magyar, paving the way for a potential revamping of Budapest's geopolitical stance.

Votes surged to its highest level since the end of Communist rule, driven by a coalition that cut across ideological lines. With 92% of the ballots being counted on Sunday night, Peter Magyar's Tisza was leading with 53.72% of the vote, ahead of Orban's ruling Fidesz with 37.67% - a result in line with opposition-friendly pre-election polls.
