Kolkata, Feb. 17 -- Even before the schedule for the West Bengal Assembly elections is announced, the state government is set to resume the distribution of bicycles to students under the 'Sabooj Sathi' scheme.

According to administrative sources, if all preparations are completed as planned, the process will begin in the third week of February.

The renewed push from Nabanna has triggered political discussions, given the proximity to the polls.

The 'Sabooj Sathi' scheme was launched in the 2015-16 academic year on the initiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In its first year, bicycles were distributed to around 40 lakh students from Classes IX to XII.
