Chennai, Sept. 3 -- In a joint operation, officials of the Chennai Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and NarcoticsControl Bureau(NCB) busted a cocaine smuggling syndicate, seized 5,618 kg of contraband worth Rs 56 crore at theAnna International airport here and arrested its members in Mumbai and Delhi.
A total of four people, including two passeners, who smuggled the cocaine, were arrested.
A PIB release here today said the AIU officers based on spot profiling, intercepted two Indian male passengers whohad arrived from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines at the airport.
Scanning and examination of their hand baggage revealed compactly packed capsules suspected to be cocaineconcealed inside Ferrero Rocher chocolate cans.
