New Delhi, Sept. 4 -- The Supreme Court today registered a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) after taking note of a media report highlighting the lack of functional CCTV cameras in police stations across the country.
A bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, expressed grave concern over custodial violence, observing that at least 11 custodial deaths had been reported in the past seven to eight months.
