Kochi, Sept. 24 -- In a major boost to India's shipbuilding capacity under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with South Korea's HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE).

Alongside the pact, CSL announced two mega projects, a Rs 3,700 crore Block Fabrication Facility (BFF) in Kochi and a Rs 15,000 crore greenfield shipyard in Tamil Nadu.

The Kochi BFF, to be developed on 80 acres with an annual capacity of 1.20 lakh metric tonnes, is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs and several thousand indirect opportunities across MSMEs, logistics and allied industries.
