Kolkata, April 16 -- Senior CPI(M) leader and lawyer Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya has declined to accept his pension as a former Rajya Sabha Member, informing the Rajya Sabha Secretariat of his decision in a letter on Thursday ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026.

In his communication to the Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha, Bhattacharya wrote that he does not wish to receive any financial pension to which he is entitled as a former MP.

He also requested the authorities to ensure that his decision is officially recorded in parliamentary documents.

The letter, notably, bears his signature in Bengali at the bottom.
