New Delhi, Jan. 31 -- CPI leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sandosh Kumar P has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly opposing the observations made in the Economic Survey 2025-26 regarding the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, terming them as a threat to transparency and democratic accountability.

In his letter, Sandosh Kumar said the RTI Act was a historic step towards empowering citizens and strengthening democratic oversight, achieved with decisive support from the Left during the UPA-I government.

The CPI MP said the RTI Act was a "historic advance in institutionalising transparency and democratic accountability. It was a conscious political choice to empower citizens, curb corruption and subject the state to public scrutiny."...
