Kolkata, Feb. 13 -- The CPI(M) on Friday hit back at the Congress by invoking memories of what it described as "Congress terror" of the 1970s in the state, days after the grand old party formally announced its decision to snap ties with the Left Front.
Addressing a press conference at its state headquarters Muzaffar Ahmed Bhavan here, CPI(M) general secretary M A Baby said the Left had wanted to bring together all forces opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Trinamool Congress ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls, but the Congress chose a different path.
"We wanted a united fight against the BJP and the Trinamool in West Bengal. If the Congress does not feel the necessity, what can we do?" he said.
