Kolkata, Feb. 5 -- A day when the AICC officially declared it would contest the West Bengal Assembly elections on its own, the CPI(M) said on Thursday that it was keen on forging a broader front of forces opposed to both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP.

However, prospects of a pre-poll understanding with the Congress appeared uncertain following the AICC's decision.

"The Left is keeping its channels of communication open to all the political groups that are against the ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition BJP," CPI-M state secretary Mohammed Salim told a press conference here.
