Patna, April 25 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) today urged the Bihar government to release pending payments under various social security pension schemes.
CPI state secretary Ram Naresh Pandey said here that around 1.25 crore people in Bihar are beneficiaries of social security pension schemes, with elderly citizens forming the largest group.
He alleged that pension payments have not been disbursed for several months, causing severe financial distress among beneficiaries, particularly senior citizens.
Pandey further claimed that the state government's financial condition is strained and alleged that the treasury is nearly empty.
