Pathanamthitta, Jan. 13 -- The Thiruvalla Magistrate Court on Tuesday granted the Special Investigation Team (SIT) three days' custody of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in connection with a sexual assault case under investigation.
The court accepted the police submission that custodial interrogation was required to recover and examine crucial evidence, including electronic devices such as a mobile phone and a laptop, which are believed to contain key digital material relevant to the probe.
In view of the custody granted to the SIT, the hearing on Mamkootathil's bail plea is likely to be postponed and is expected to be considered after the completion of the custody period.
