Kollam, March 19 -- Raising serious concerns over consumer rights, the Kollam District Committee of the Human Rights Foundation has called for an immediate ban on the use of bills printed on low-durability paper that fade within a short period.

In a resolution adopted on Consumer Rights Day, the organisation noted that several commercial establishments and public sector agencies, including the Electricity Board and Water Authority, are issuing computer-generated bills on thermal paper that often becomes unreadable within 10 to 15 days.

This, the foundation said, creates difficulties for consumers in producing proof of payment during disputes, making the practice both anti-consumer and legally questionable.
