Mumbai, April 9 -- Following discussions between Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and veteran NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Congress decided to withdraw its candidate from Baramati. After prolonged discussions, the party has arrived at a decision to pull its candidate out of the fray in Baramati, clearing the path for Sunetra Pawar's victory in the Baramati election.

Initially, a total of 53 candidates had filed their nominations. While 30 candidates have withdrawn, 23 candidates remain in the fray. Although Sunetra's election will not be unopposed, with the Congress party's withdrawal, Deputy Chief Minister's path to victory has become much smoother.
