New Delhi, Jan. 28 -- Congress leaders on Wednesday expressed gief over the tragic demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash in the morning.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described the news of Pawar's "untimely death" as "deeply shocking" and said the crash has cut short the life of a leader "who had a long and promising political career ahead".

"The news of the tragic demise of Shri Ajit Pawar, in a plane crash, is deeply shocking and profoundly distressing. It is an untimely loss of a leader who had a long and promising political career ahead," Kharge said in a post on his X handle.
