Chandigarh, Jan. 3 -- A Congress leader was shot dead in Punjab's Moga district on Saturday morning after being fired upon multiple times while on his way to work, police said.
The assailants, believed to be around five, opened fire at close range and fled the scene immediately after the attack.
According to police, the victim, identified as 38-year-old Umarsir Singh, a resident of Bhinder Khurd village, was travelling in his car to his workplace when the attack took place near Bhinder Kalan.
He was employed with a private company in Moga. Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers were already waiting at the spot and intercepted his vehicle before carrying out the shooting.
