Chandrapur, Jan. 16 -- The Congress registered a significant gain in the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation elections, emerging as the single largest party with 28 seats in the 66-member civic body, dealing a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Vote counting is still in progress.

According to available results, the Congress and its allies together have secured 28 seats, while the BJP has won 26. Shiv Sena (UBT) has claimed six seats and two independents have also been elected. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, AIMIM and BSP have won one seat each.
