Chandigarh, March 19 -- The Punjab unit of the Congress on Thursday called for an independent and comprehensive investigation by a central agency into the recent arrest of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sarpanch in Amritsar district.

The demand comes in the wake of the apprehension of Lovepreet Singh, a village head from the Majitha area, who was allegedly found in possession of 4.5 kilograms of heroin and illegal weaponry.

Reacting sharply to the development, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring stated that this incident is not an isolated one, pointing to the previous arrest of another AAP sarpanch in Tarn Taran on similar narcotics charges.
