New Delhi, April 3 -- Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh launched a scathing attack on the union government on Friday, claiming that the hasty extension of the current Parliamentary session until this month is intended to gain political advantage ahead of important state elections while avoiding proper consultation with the opposition.
Addressing reporters in Delhi, Ramesh said the government had ignored repeated requests from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for an all-party meeting, despite formal correspondence with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
He described the decision to proceed unilaterally as a "gross violation" of the Model Code of Conduct, particularly with elections imminent in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu....
