Bengaluru, Jan. 22 -- The ruling Congress and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were engaged in a sharp confrontation in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Thursday following Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's truncated address to the joint session of the Legislature, with his sudden walkout emerging as the central flashpoint.

The Governor delivered only a very brief address, reading just a couple of lines, before walking out of the joint session, triggering pandemonium and political confrontation in the House. The standoff stemmed from a dispute over the contents of the government-drafted address, particularly certain paragraphs critical of the Centre, including references to changes in the rural employment guarantee scheme.
