Davangere, Feb. 9 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday clarified his position on the Bengaluru Metro fare hike, asserting that he is not responsible for fixing the fares.
"The chairman will fix the metro fares, am I the chairman for that? The chairman is appointed by the central government, he will fix the fare. I did not say that the metro fare should be increased," he said. The remarks came amid widespread protests over the proposed hike in Namma Metro fares.
Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition R Ashoka challenged the state government to formally write to the Central Government seeking a rollback of the fare hike, warning that failure to do so would amount to mere propaganda.
