Puducherry, March 1 -- Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the people's long pending demand of according Statehood to the union Territory of Puducherry.

Speaking at an event, which Mr Modi launched various infrastructural and development projects to thve tune of Rs 2,700 crore, the Chief Minister made full use of the occasion and requested him to consider this request.

Mr Rangasamy said resolutions in this regard were adopted in the Territorial Assembly and was sent to the Centre on 13 occasions seeking its approval.

But the Centre was yet to consider the request, the Chief Minister said and requested Mr Modi to consider it and accord Statehood status to Puducherry.
