Shimla, Dec. 28 -- In a ruling that clarifies the boundaries of state quota eligibility, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has held that children of bona fide Himachalis, whose parents work in the private sector outside the state, could not claim admission to MBBS or BDS courses under the Himachal Pradesh state quota, even if they qualify the NEET exam.

The 22-page judgment, delivered by Justice Ajay Mohan Goel on November 26, dismissed four petitions filed by several students in this category. The court upheld the validity of a clause in the 2025-26 admission prospectus which makes eligibility contingent on passing at least two school examinations (classes 10 and 12) from a recognized institution within Himachal Pradesh.
