Chandigarh, March 30 -- At least 12 children fell ill in Punjab's Fazilka district after consuming the fruit of a 'Ratanjot' plant, mistaking it for almonds while playing in a village field, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place in Muradwala Dal Singh village earlier in the day when a group of children, playing in an open ground, came across plants bearing fruit that closely resembled almonds. According to initial information, one child first consumed the fruit, and others followed suit, unaware of its harmful nature.
