Shillong, March 10 -- Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday said that the 'growth story' of Meghalaya has been powered by the state's own resources, even as he termed the 50 years loan under Special Assistance to States on Capital Investment (SASCI) and Externally-Aided Projects (EAPs) to be "almost like free money".
Replying to the Budget discussion in the assembly, Sangma said, "This entire misconception that our growth story is being driven by loans and that it is the people of the state that will have to pay back the loans, is completely wrong".
He said the shares of central taxes are a constitutional provision which mandates the central government to devolve taxes to all states, including Meghalaya.
