New Delhi, Feb. 18 -- India's Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran warned on Wednesday that the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution threatens to create a "new form of digital colonialism" unless democratic governments intervene to prevent tech giants from monopolising the infrastructure of the intelligent economy.
Challenging the prevailing hands-off approach to AI governance, Nageswaran argued that leaving the trajectory of AI development entirely to technologists would produce distributional consequences comparable to quantitative easing after the 2008 financial crisis, widening inequality for a generation.
