Los Angeles, Feb. 14 -- Sony Pictures is preparing to bring back the iconic 'Charlie's Angels' franchise. The studio is in the early stages of developing a new feature film based on the female-led 1970s TV crime drama that later evolved into a blockbuster action movie series, according to Variety.

Pete Chiarelli, known for writing 'The Proposal' and the adaptation of 'Crazy Rich Asians', has been tapped to pen the script.

Originally debuting in 1976, 'Charlie's Angels' followed a trio of women working at the Townsend private detective agency, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon. The original cast included Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith, who became television icons.
