Kolkata, Feb. 8 -- Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal has sought an extension of the deadline for hearings under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in West Bengal, as the process is yet to be completed in at least 15 to 20 Assembly constituencies even on the final day on Saturday.
In a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Agarwal said it would not be possible to finish the pending hearings within the stipulated time and requested additional days to complete the exercise in the affected constituencies.
However, till late Saturday afternoon, no formal approval for the extension had reached the CEO's office.
