New Delhi, March 11 -- The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Monday revoked the suspension of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), restoring its recognition as the National Sports Federation (NSF) with immediate effect. The decision ensures Indian wrestlers' participation in upcoming international events, including the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympics.
The WFI had been suspended on December 24, 2023, due to governance lapses, including violations of the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011, and a lack of transparency in operations. In response, an Ad-hoc Committee appointed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had taken over the federation's responsibilities.
