New Delhi, July 10 -- Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to Centre, Kerala and 12 other states on a plea challenging the use of barbaric means to ward off wild animals.

"We issue notice to the Centre and other states as mentioned in the petition. We will seek detailed response from these respective parties in the case. We will hear the case later, after we receive a detailed reply in matter," the three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said.

The petition was filed in the wake of the sad and brutal death of a pregnant elephant due to firecracker hidden in food in Kerala.

The petitioner, Subham Awasthi had filed the petition before the Apex Court and seeking appropriate directions and or orders in the case.
