Ranchi, Feb. 11 -- A joint platform of 10 central trade unions, with support from various farmers' organisations, has called for a nationwide strike (Bharat Bandh) on February 12.
The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) has extended moral support to the bandh.
The strike has been called primarily in protest against the labour reforms and economic policies of the BJP-led Central Government, which, according to the unions, have weakened workers' protections.
The new labour codes are alleged to have reduced job security, diluted legal safeguards, and increased employers' flexibility in hiring and firing, adversely impacting workers' rights and interests.
