New Delhi, Oct. 17 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a senior Punjab Police DIG and a private individual in a bribery case.
The 2009-batch IPS officer, posted as DIG of Ropar Range, was apprehended along with his alleged middleman for demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakh and recurring monthly payments from a complainant.
According to the CBI, the officer had demanded the illegal gratification to "settle" an FIR against the complainant and shield his business from any further police action.
The agency laid a trap in Chandigarh's Sector 21, where the middleman was caught red-handed accepting the Rs 8 lakh in cash. A controlled call was then made to the DIG, who acknowledged the payment and summoned them to his office, w...
