New Delhi, Dec. 12 -- A special CBI court on Thursday sentenced two people to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for defrauding the government exchequer of over Rs one crore, the agency confirmed on Friday.
The convicted individuals are Satya Narayan Prasad Patel, the then village pradhan; and Shahnawaj Alam, the then fair price shopkeeper (Kotedar). The court also imposed a total fine of Rs 55,000 on them.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case in 2008, taking it over from PS Narhi in Ballia district, against 172 accused persons.
