Shimla, Sept. 15 -- CBI Court in Shimla today once again rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) plea to secure five days' police remand of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj Kumar, arrested in connection with the mysterious death of Vimal Negi. The court instead granted only one day of police custody, marking the second setback for the agency in less than 48 hours.
Kumar, a resident of Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district, was arrested on September 14 under Sections 315, 238 read with 108, 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the prosecution, he allegedly retained a pen drive belonging to the deceased, which was later found to have been formatted in March this year.
